With two-thirds of Jefferson Parish still without power Saturday morning after Hurricane Isaac tore through, the parish president is demanding an investigation into Entergy-Louisana?s storm response.
"We haven?t seen the boots on the ground. There hasn?t been the sense the urgency. If they were out there working and they had manpower and had trucks visible and we still had problems that would be one thing. But we don?t see any commitment to get it done,? President John Young told WDSU.
Young said he was ?infuriated? to see hundreds of Entergy trucks sitting idle at the Ponchatrain Center early Saturday morning as some 137,000 Jefferson Parish residents still waited for their power to come back.
Young said the company assured him they had made fortifications after 2008?s?Hurricane Gustav and were ready for Isaac, but now it?s clear ?somebody dropped the ball.??
In addition to an investigation, he is asking for the company to be fined $500,000 ? the maximum fine allowed by law.?
Louisiana's Public Service Commission said more than 443,000 customers remained without electricity around Louisiana on Saturday morning. Outages had peaked at more than 900,000 at one point.
Jefferson Parish is covered by Entergy-Louisiana. The?utility has not responded to Young's comments.??
