Nigella?s personal stories of living in Italy many years ago and learning to cook Italian food as a poor student make her seem relatable and real. In A New Attitude To Italian Food, Nigella explains that the book is not a history of authentic Italian recipes, but instead a book of recipes that?s authentically Nigella: a love of Italy expressed in quick no-fuss cooking using accessible ingredients.

Nigella?s Latin Loves

When you?ve worked your way through one category, the N in the upper left corner will take you home. Nigella?s Latin Loves is too tempting to ignore, and tapping on the green Romanesco (a vegetable similar to cauliflower) reveals Nigella?s must-have Italian ingredients and gadgets. Each item is pictured with 360? photography, constantly spinning for a view of every angle. This effect is unusual and makes the app feel fresh and new.

O'Meara says Singh should be punished for doping

(AP) ? Mark O'Meara doesn't think Vijay Singh would ever try to cheat but still believes the Fijian should be suspended "for a couple of months" by the PGA Tour for admitting he used a deer-antler spray that contains a banned substance.

O'Meara, who called Singh a friend, said he heard about the Fijian's admission on Wednesday, but doesn't believe he benefited on the course from the unorthodox treatment.

"I was obviously a little bit surprised with what I heard, but I don't think Vijay is a guy that would ever take advantage of anything. I know Vijay," O'Meara said after finishing his first round at the Dubai Desert Classic.

"I guess they could probably suspend him for a couple of months. I would think so," the two-time major winner said. "Listen, people have had to pay the price before and he should be no different. If that is the case and the commissioner and tour feels he should be suspended for X amount of time, I think Vijay is man enough that he'll do that."

The 49-year-old Singh said he paid one of Sports With Alternatives To Steroids' owners $9,000 in November for the spray and other products, Sports Illustrated said. Singh released a statement at the Phoenix Open confirming he had taken it, but that he was "absolutely shocked that deer-antler spray may contain a banned substance and am angry that I have put myself in this position."

Singh, who won the last of his 56 titles in 2008, said he will cooperate with the tour's review of the issue.

Bob Charles, the 1963 British Open winner, said in New Zealand on Thursday he also used and promoted deer-antler spray for more than 20 years, and was surprised to learn it contained a banned substance. Charles was a spokesman for the deer-antler product and used it daily over two decades.

Despite Singh's admission, O'Meara and other golfers said they felt the measures in place to combat doping in golf, including random testing, were adequate.

"I don't think doping is a problem in golf whatsoever. I really don't," Paul Casey said. "There are so many facets to our sport. Why was he taking it? Was he taking it to recover from injury? It doesn't help you get the ball in the hole at the end of the day. This is the first case I've heard where a guy admitted to taking anything."

The oddity of deer-antler spray being used by golfers was the talk on the Dubai course on Thursday, with Lee Westwood among the players having a good laugh about it. Most said they had never heard of it until the story on Singh.

"Deer-antler spray? That sounds like something you wax your car with, doesn't it?" Westwood said. "I've never heard of it. ... You have to be careful about what you take. I try not to take anything now, really, other than Corona and vodka."

Colin Montgomerie, a rival of Singh during their heydays, called the whole case "odd" and said the European Tour doctor "came to us (and said) deer antler, whatever it is, don't take that this afternoon lads."

Montgomerie said the tour had nothing to worry about with him when it came to doping.

"I can only speak for myself and it's not widespread within the Montgomerie family," the 2010 Europe Ryder Cup captain said, looking down at his torso. "Unfortunately. You can see that though, can't you, really."

Social Media Marketing ? Why You Should Outsource Instead of ...

Social Media Marketing - Why You Should Outsource Instead of Keeping It In HouseSocial media marketing is a mainstay of business today. No matter how stupid you believe tweeting and pinning and liking are, in the end there is a tremendous value to being present online WHEREVER your customers and prospects are.

Used to be business dictated how people found out about them and how they were projected in advertising and the media. You bought an ad, placed a yellow page listing or had a write up in the newspaper that you basically controlled. Today, consumers are out there talking about you and your brand, searching the internet to find out what your company is all about and making buying decisions based on what they find.

Yesterday we had a business owner call to say that there were bad comments out there on a website and he wanted to know what one thing he could do to make that go away. Unfortunately there is no one thing. There are ten spots on google every time someone does a search and he will need to fill those up with LinkedIn listings, website and blog listings, Facebook and Google Plus profiles, YouTube videos and all other manner of data about his company in order to battle that.

So what if no one is talking bad about your company. You are okay with sticking your head in the sand and ignoring social media right? Hmmmm no! Having one website that was supposed to carry the load for your entire marketing efforts may have worked in 2003, but today, you need to be visible across a wide range of media. Your customers all have a favorite and if you aren?t on there, your competitors will be attracting their attention before they even get around to searching for your products or services!

So now you know why you need it, why can?t you just hire someone in house to do your social media marketing? That way you can look over their shoulder and manage everything internally. Here are my Top 10 reasons for why this is a very bad idea!

1. It is cost prohibitive to get someone that is good. The AVERAGE salary for a social media marketing manager according to Salary.com is $101,969 a year. This does not include benefits that anyone decent will require.

Social Media Marketing Manager

2. The benefits package for this employee will be another expense. In addition to the salary requirements, you have another $12,550 to cover Social Security, retirement, healthcare, etc.

Social media marketing manager benefits

3. Getting someone with marketing experience. Social media marketing is not about social media, it is entirely about marketing. While learning the tools of how to accomplish the tasks is important, you would not hire a surgeon just because she had a good way with cutting her food. Knowing the company?s goals, what you want to accomplish and the best ways to do that are skills that are learned over the years. There are four hour courses that some of the so call ?social media experts? take to learn the tools and then put themselves out there as gurus. Make sure to ask how long your in house employee has been doing marketing.

4. Staying current with the trends. Social media marketing and SEO are a moving target. You cannot learn something today and think that it will be the same in a year (or even the next two months). One glaring thing that comes to mind here is the practice of using posting services like Hootsuite. While there is a place for those, all you need to do is take a peek at your Facebook timeline to see that there are not nearly as many Hootsuite auto posts as there are real people who hand posted.

5. Keeping up with training. Another huge annual cost you will be bringing in house is training. Your employee will need to take courses and attend conferences and training events to stay current with the technologies. We spend between $6,000 and $10,000 annually in training for our employees and our marketing expert. The problem with spending this money on an employee is that all that know-how walks out the door if they leave.

6. A commitment to keeping jobs in America. One thing we do hear is that companies are sick of outsourcing US dollars overseas. This can make hiring a person for your company seem like a patriotic thing to do. We agree whole heartedly and there are social media marketing companies who are not outsourcing work (we know, we are one of them!). Simply ask if their employees are in the US or if they employ overseas workers when you are doing your due diligence.

7. Lots of hands. If you have your social media in house and your employee becomes sick or unable to do their job, there is no one to step in and pick up the ball. When you outsource your work, the social media marketing company should have multiple employees who can step in and take over your posting at a moments notice.

8. No animosity. Another big problem we find is that employees who are leaving or getting ready to leave on bad terms have sometimes tampered with or otherwise disrupted marketing channels before heading out the door. We have had more than one company contact us to see if there is a ?secret? to getting their Facebook page back after a disgruntled employee has changed passwords or deleted pages. When you are working with an outside company, their workers are do not have any ?skin in the game? to hurt your company. In fact, we hire all ?seasoned? women who are proud of the job they do and who have never stepped a toe over the line without asking first.

9. Time and consistency. We have worked with a number of big (and small) companies who have every intention of hiring a social media marketing manager to, well, do the social media tasks. What we have found is that this person rapidly becomes busy doing other company things and the focus on tweeting, answering messages and generally minding the social media store gets diluted. Having an outside company dedicated to this allows your marketing department to keep the goals and focus in mind while directing the outsourcing agency, but the work still gets done.

10. Doing what you do best. If your company is not a social media marketing company, then the focus of your business needs to stay on your industry and not get mired in the social media flavor of the day. Utilizing internal talent to be doing outward facing tasks is definitely not the highest and best use of their time. It is fine to have sales people working with specific prospects, but your company as a whole has to have a plan in place to take advantage of this huge (and multi-legged) marketing opportunity.

Are we biased because we ARE a social media marketing company, probably! But I have to say that all of these are items that we have encountered in our work with companies and they are valid problems in this internet, social media based world.

If you have any questions about this or would like to talk about opportunities for hiring a social media marketing company to outsource your work to, please give us a call today! 727-415-9165

New Orleans Travel: Two Cemeteries Worth A Stop For Super Bowl ...

If you're in New Orleans for the Super Bowl this weekend (or thereafter for Mardi Gras), it's worth stopping at some of the city's famed cemeteries while there.

Just beyond the French Quarter lies St. Louis Cemetery #1, part of a trio of Roman Catholic cemeteries. Among the many notables buried there is the the voodoo practitioner Marie Laveau. (Stop by her grave and leave her flowers, Mardi Gras beads or even cigarettes.) A jaunt through the cemetery's above-ground graves makes for a great, historic walk (if you want more historical info, head out on a guided tour).

In the heart of the city's famous Garden District sits Lafayette Cemetery, which was established in 1833. Above-ground tombs dot the cemetery where movies like "Interview with the Vampire" were filmed.

Check out some views of the cemeteries below and add your own, too.

Rats, like humans, return to drinking once punishment is removed

Thursday, January 31, 2013

Once heavy drinking impairs function, a variety of punishment-related threats may motivate people to stop drinking: spouses may threaten divorce, employers may threaten job loss, and courts threaten drunk drivers with losing their driver's license or incarceration. In the face of these threats, many alcohol abusers refrain from drinking, but relapse is very common when the threats of punishment fade, particularly when exposed to alcohol-associated environments (contexts).

A new study by researchers at the National Institute on Drug Abuse suggests that rats may behave in the same way. This is important because a significant amount of addiction research is performed in animals, using models of addiction, before it is translated to work in humans.

"The better our animal models fit human alcoholism, the more our animal research will help us to understand the complexity of the human disorder and to develop new treatments," commented Dr. John Krystal, Editor of Biological Psychiatry.

Currently, the most commonly employed techniques to achieve alcohol abstinence in animal work are forced abstinence and/or extinction training, where a lever press that used to consistently deliver alcohol no longer does so. These models of relapse are limited because they do not incorporate behaviors that mimic a human's desire to avoid negative consequences of drinking.

To address this divergence between animal models and the human condition, Nathan Marchant and colleagues developed a rat relapse model in which voluntary alcohol intake is suppressed by punishment in an environment that is different from the original alcohol intake environment.

They showed that when rats were re-exposed to the original alcohol self-administration environment, after suppression of alcohol intake in a different environment by punishment, they immediately relapsed to alcohol seeking.

"A potential clinical implication of this preclinical finding is that abstinence induced by introducing adverse consequences on alcohol intake in inpatient treatment clinics would have a limited effect on subsequent alcohol use in the home environment after completion of treatment," commented Marchant.

As with nearly all such scientific work, the findings themselves are interesting, but they also lead to many more questions. What is the potential influence of medication or other manipulations on this model? Would the model hold up when other drugs of abuse or even food were studied? Does the passage of time have any effect on this model? More work will be undertaken to answer these and other related questions.
