New Orleans Travel: Two Cemeteries Worth A Stop For Super Bowl ...

If you're in New Orleans for the Super Bowl this weekend (or thereafter for Mardi Gras), it's worth stopping at some of the city's famed cemeteries while there.

Just beyond the French Quarter lies St. Louis Cemetery #1, part of a trio of Roman Catholic cemeteries. Among the many notables buried there is the the voodoo practitioner Marie Laveau. (Stop by her grave and leave her flowers, Mardi Gras beads or even cigarettes.) A jaunt through the cemetery's above-ground graves makes for a great, historic walk (if you want more historical info, head out on a guided tour).

In the heart of the city's famous Garden District sits Lafayette Cemetery, which was established in 1833. Above-ground tombs dot the cemetery where movies like "Interview with the Vampire" were filmed.
