AMC, Double Feature Films enter first-look deal

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Cable network AMC and Double Feature Films, the production company behind "Django Unchained" and "Contagion," among others, have entered a first-look deal for television projects, the companies said Monday.

Under the two-year agreement, Double Feature will develop and produce scripted TV projects for AMC, marking the first time that Double Feature has entered such a pact with a cable network. Double Feature partners Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg were executive producers on "Reno 911," which ran for six seasons on Comedy Central.

AMC's executive vice president of original programming, production and digital content Joel Stillerman touted Sher and Shamberg's "Reno 911" experience in announcing the deal.

"Stacey and Michael are outstanding producers who have made an incredible range of films; along with an iconic, out of the box, television series that is still talked about today," Stillerman said. "What's clear from looking at their body of work is that they are driven by great material, great ideas, and great talent; and they know how to put those things together. We truly look forward to collaborating with them."

"We watch the great shows on AMC all the time so we love the idea that we can see our own productions on the network. What AMC does so well is to tell great stories with fresh characters and their series truly feel like films," Sher and Shamberg added. "This gives us the opportunity to take what we are so drawn to from the film side and make our own productions on the TV side."

Shamberg and Sher are currently in post-production on the Justin Timberlake/Ben Affleck film "Runner Runner" and "Get a Job," featuring Miles Teller and Bryan Cranston, the star of AMC's drama series "Breaking Bad."
