EMP partnered with Cairo Amman Bank (CAB) and Jordanian Military Credit Fund to offer armed forces personnel a debit card linked to cardholders' main checking account.
JONET enables cardholders to use their card in making purchases with any merchant in Jordan displaying the JONET logo. The JONET Card also allows cardholders to withdraw cash from JONET ATMs available across the country. This new solution offered by EMP will grant members of the Jordanian armed forces a secure and convenient payment tool.
"At EMP, we are keen to explore untapped areas of the market and further develop the electronic payment card processing industry. As such, we are targeting the unbanked segments of society and focusing on the public sector specifically," said Mr. Hassan Mayassi, EMP's Merchant Acquiring CEO and MD of EMP Middle East. "With customized tools that serve specific financial needs of issuers, we are increasing card penetration rates and taking solid steps to migrate to digital currency. The Jordanian market is a promising one, and we are constantly aiming to showcase our commitment to the market through offering the most advanced electronic payment card processing services and solutions."
EMP entered the Jordanian market after acquiring Visa Jordan in August 2011, and currently owns and handles the processing of 80% of the point-of-sale (POS) terminals in the country. The company also owns and handles the processing of the national interbank switch (JONET), which connects the networks of all automated teller machines (ATMs) in the country. Offering a wide range of cutting-edge services and solutions, EMP is currently the leader of the industry locally.
Muhanad Shehadeh, CEO of MCF commented on the recent partnership, saying, "We at MCF are extremely pleased with this cooperation and with the card programme itself. EMP is a leader in the electronic payment card processing industry, with a long history of success in many regional and international markets."
He went on to say that MCF "welcomes any opportunity that allows us to serve our armed forces personnel better and offer them more advanced services that add convenience and practicality to their lifestyle."
The decision by MCF and CAB to enter into a partnership with EMP demonstrates their unwavering commitment to best serve their clients by continuing to adopt new and innovative card programs.
On his part Mr. Kamal Al Bakri, General Manager of Cairo Amman Bank (CAB) stated that "CAB has been serving the armed forces and other public sector entities and individuals for a long time, and has demonstrated its commitment to always offer affordable and convenient financial solutions to these clients. The 'JONET Card' is yet another example of that. Moreover, we are proud of this mutually beneficial alliance, which is in line with our strategy to enhance and develop the country's banking sector in general and its card industry in particular."
