THOROLD ? A Thorold man has been charged after a donation jar was stolen from a charity event on Saturday.
The incident happened around 2:45 p.m.
Niagara Regional Police were called to the Bamboo Hairstylist, on Sullivan Avenue, in Thorold.
The business was hosting a charity barbecue event aimed at collecting hair for the Wigs for Kids organization and raising money to fight cancer.
According to investigators, a man attending the event grabbed a jar used for donations and made off on foot.
Other people attending the event who had witnessed the incident chased the suspect.
They caught up with the man and the jar near the Thorold Fire Station.
Charged with theft under $5,000 is Gordon Mayo-Stacey, of Thorold.
Police would like to thank the citizens involved for their quick action.
Due to this quick action all of the proceeds collected at the event were recovered and returned.
